The following strategies are adopted by Seafood Exporters Association of India to help achieve its goal of positioning India as the global leader in sustainable seafood production and exports, recognised for quality, innovation and dedicated commitment for protection of environment.

Market Diversification

Explore new markets

Identify new markets in Latin America, Africa to reduce dependance on traditional markets

Promote value added products

Focus on ready to eat and ready to cook products catering to changing consumer preferences

Participation in Trade fairs and expos

Actively participate in all major and minor international fairs and expos to provide exposure and to showcase Indian seafood

Quality Assurance

Adherence to international standards

Guiding members to meet the quality requirements of different importing countries

Capacity building

Organise training programmes for compliance with new international regulations

Support for accreditation

Help members to obtain certifications such as HACCP, MSC AND BAP

Advocacy and Policy intervention

Liaison with government

Work with Ministry of Commerce, MPEDA., EIC and other regulatory bodies to create favourable policy environment for exporters

Simplification of procedures

Work towards simplifying procedures for import for processing and re-export and for streamlining clearance through ports by better coordination with all statutory agencies

Work towards removal of trade and non trade barriers

Work with governments to assist stakeholders to resolve issues like Counter Vailing Duties, Anti Dumping Duties and other tariff and non tariff barriers

Technology upgradation

Promote automation

Support efforts of members to move towards an automated environment in processing and packing technologies

Ensure traceability norms

Support efforts of governments and related agencies to ensure implementation of globally accepted traceability norms

Use of digital means and Artificial Intelligence

Assist members to use digital means and artificial intelligence to improve their overall functioning

Sustainability

Promote environment friendly practices

Encourage use of sustainable aquaculture practices and installation of Turtle extruder devices in all fishing nets used in fishing vessels

Collaborate with international certification agencies

Partner with organisations promoting marine conservation and sustainable practices

Support efforts for tackling impact of climate change

Support measures taken for conducting research in the area of climate change and the impact it has on marine flora

Infrastructure

Improve port infrastructure

Work towards improving the facilities in ports and fishing harbours to ensure efficient handling of catch

Cold chain and logistics

Support investments in cold chain facilities and logistics to bring down post harvest losses

Cluster development

Promote development of pre processing clusters and common treatment plants for effluents

Promotion

Use digital technologies for marketing

Encourage the use of digital technologies to help members discover new markets and to improve their businesses

Use social media for story telling

Highlight the unique aspects of Indian seafood through effective use of social media

Use influencers

Partner with renowned persons, social media influencers and celebrities to promote Indian seafood in international arena

Collaborations

International partnerships

Build mutually beneficial partnerships with other international seafood associations for sharing best practices and promoting trade

Inter sectoral coordination

Coordinate with representative bodies in related fields to strengthen value chain

Representation of all regions

Ensure equitable representation for exporters from all regions of the country so as to work for the benefit of all.

Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) is in constant touch and liaison with International Bodies and Organisations, Embassies of nations with trade relations, Government of India, State Governments, Policy Makers and Technocrats, for policy level interventions related to promotion of seafood trade and to support the interest of its members. The areas of policy interventions include-

Interventions on imposition of Countervailing Duty (CVD) and Anti-Dumping Duty (ADD)
Conclusion of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with exporting countries
Issues related to White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) and World Trade Organisation (WTO) protocol
System to ensure traceability
Installation of Turtle Extruder Device (TED) in trawl nets
Agriculture status for fisheries sector
Uniform implementation of resource conservation measures, including strict action against juvenile fishing
Incentives for promotion of seafood exports
Exemption of taxes and road cess for diesel used by fishing vessels

Support for upgradation of infrastructure
Setting up of effluent treatment plants

Seafood Exporters Association of India is coordinating with top Research, Development and Management Organisations in the areas of skill development, training and supervisory education programme for the benefit of our members.
